BTS Announce 2019 World Tour

BTS have announced plans for an all-new world tour, bringing the K-pop ensemble to select stadiums across the US this summer!

The “Love Yourself: Speak Yourself World Tour” US leg kicks off May 4 at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA and will include two more stops in Chicago and East Rutherford, NJ before heading to Brazil. The boys will then cross the pond for a handful of dates in Europe before setting their sights on Japan, bringing the 10-date global trek to a close on July 14.

News of the tour comes after a year of firsts for the K-pop sensation, who recently became the first Korean act to present at the Grammy Awards on February 10. The group also performed their first-ever stadium show last fall to a sold-out crowd at Citi Field Stadium in NYC last October.

Who Are BTS?

South Korean boy band BTS first stepped onto the scene in 2013, capturing audiences’ attention with their high-energy dance-pop/hip-hop blend that would eventually propel them to global success. BTS, standing for Bangtan Boys, released their debut album Dark & Wild in 2014, and their third EP, The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 1 one year later, quickly gaining traction and expanding their fanbase. It was their fourth EP, however, that would launch them to worldwide success at the tail-end of 2015. The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 2 topped six international charts, making BTS the first K-pop act in history to do so.

BTS has continued to set and break records since making their international breakthrough. Their second full-length album, Wings (2016), debuted in the Top 30 of the US Billboard 200, making them the first ever K-pop artist to have three albums enter the main albums charts. Their fifth EP, Love Yourself: Her, arrived in 2017, becoming the first K-pop album to debut in the Billboard 200’s Top 10. The septet received their first double-platinum certifications in Japan in 2018 and became the first Korean act to earn two gold certifications in the US that same year. They have since released one more full-length album, Love Yourself: Tear, which debuted at the number one spot on the US Billboard 200 in May 2018.

BTS consists of seven members, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, all of whom co-write and produce their material. It’s their team-based approach to which many critics and media outlets attribute their vast and rapid success. BTS’s music often centers around literature and an “alternative universe” storyline, with recurring themes relating to mental health, adolescent troubles, and loss. Their unique combination of love ballads and rap with contemporary lyricism continues to resonate with young adults and like-minded fans the world over.
